Steaming towards the sunrise

The Merlin airship is getting close to completion. It has room for four crew (including the pilot), has swiveling cannon, and a torpedo launcher. Ironclad steamship owners, tremble in fear when you see this overhead!

  1. Absolutely! I am installing ICS cannon shot and torpedoes. I think in this case ICS is a better choice than my own TCS. I'm looking forward to pitting this airship against ironclads.

  2. Great looking airship! On a semi-unrelated note, is Linden labs new copywrite policy going to affect any of your planes? I decided the hassle is no longer worth it and closed the doors on Primouth. I would imagine your planes are generic enough so you don't reall y have to worry about it.

  3. LL's new policy on trademarked images has no bearing on my products. Every product I create is an original design. I have always avoided duplicating existing, real-life aircraft. I prefer to express myself through my own designs.

And Ahkenaten, I doubt your cars actually violate the LL policy, since they have an original name and are modified from the RL cars. You should treat "Prymouth" as your own RL trademark.

  4. I know they are your own designs, but I am reading it this way: I made a car that was design-wise very close to a 1957 Chevy. Therefore it's a violation of policy. I don't think they are modified enough for LL. But we'll see how it all plays out.

I didn't mean that you copy any of your work in any way, shape or form. Your designs are certainly your own.

I was curious about items that are deemed close to rl counter parts. Am I making any sense here? lol

  5. You're making sense. I just don't agree that your cars violate any trademarks. In my non-lawyer opinion: Ahkenatan, keep making and selling cars. If you have to make a minor change to the product name, so be it, but SL would be diminished by your withdrawing your creations.

  6. After stating that I "never" build replicas of real-life aircraft, I was reminded that I made a Nieuport 17 and a Boeing Stearman. I wonder… has the copyright expired on those designs? Certainly the Nieuport company is long gone, but should I worry about Boeing sending me a takedown notice about their fifties-era biplane? I would hazard to say no.

  7. The basic problem of copyright, trademarks, and few other forms of IP protection has been around in the 3D model world for a while. There's a lot of stuff available for the Poser program. for instance. And, mostly, it seems to be a trademark issue. Which means that if a company becomes aware of a potential infringement, they have to act.

Choosing a different name certainly helps, but it may not be a 100% protection. And current products are more of a risk than are historical ones.

The technology the mostly use is different, but there's a Copyright discussion forum at Renderosity (www.renderosity.com)
