I’m baaaack

I couldn’t stay away. I’m hopelessly addicted to building aircraft. Somebody help me! :)

In the last couple of days, I’ve spent a few hours working on the Orca, which should be ready for general release sometime later this week. I have to say, this one has been a challenge.

And because I can’t work on the same thing for more than a day or so without being sidetracked, I helped Chage McCoy set up his Red Baron Fokker for dogfights. You can now visit the east end of the runway at Abbotts Aerodrome and try dogfighting in a bright red Fokker triplane… FREE!

Not to be outdone, this morning I set up a similar system to let people dogfight in my Royal Flying Corps biplane. Also entirely free and gratis too. You can hop into this WWI era flying machine at my shop at Abbotts Aerodrome (click here to teleport to the nearest hub).

Free test flights at my shop in Abbotts

If anyone needs an opponent, I’ll be around. Just drop me an IM.

Gone fishin’

I’m taking a break from Second Life for a bit, to rest and recharge, and maybe come back with some fresh perspective and ideas. I’ll be gone for roughly a month. If anyone has any urgent communications, please use e-mail (cubeyterra@cavers.ca) instead of IM, since my IM inbox tends to fill up quickly and block messages.

See you in February!

Rebuilding it… better, stronger, bubblier than before!

My time online in the last couple of days has been all about tearing down my old shop and building the new one. It’s a poopload of effort, but I think it’s going to be good.

The problem with my last shop, and every shop I had before now, is that it was just a row of display models. Boooring. Why bother to log onto SL, if you can’t have a little fun?

That’s why my new shop has a fully functional hangar deck (no, not “fully functional” in the Lt. Commander Data sense of the word). The hangar door and roof open (just click it) and you can test drive any of the aircraft on display on that deck. The demo vehicles last as long as you sit on them, then disappear.

Next door to the hangar is the sub room, where you’ll find a bubbly underwater theme and all of my subs. No demos in there yet, but I might be able to work on that soon.

Come and play for a bit.

Shamu?

Only a short time after I finished the Tigershark, I started playing with an idea that I’d had a while back. I wanted to make some kind of flying sub that’s inspired by the shape of a whale. They’re streamlined and beautiful — perfect models for any vehicle.

Some months ago, I made a test vehicle called “Beluga”. Well it was too ugly to keep working on, but I was still interested in pursuing the concept.

Now I have a prototype for the Orca, a shape inspired by killer whales.

I’m not certain that I’ll finish this one, but it sure is weird.

Ist it a tiger? Is it a shark?

I don’t know, but it took a couple of weeks and five beta testers to complete the new Terra Tigershark submersible aircraft.

New Terra Tigershark: better performance, usability, and... oooh, lookit the new colour schemes!

The Tigershark can seat two avatars and has better all around performance and usability than the Cormorant. A new menu-driven options menu makes it much easier to set up the Tigershark’s options, paint scheme, and turn on-off combat.

Many thanks and kudos go to the crack team of Tigershark beta testers: Matthias Zander, Michael Martinez, Cruiser Guilman, Mak Marshall, and Torley Torgeson. You’ll note that the Tigershark includes a “watermelon” paint scheme for all of those watermelon fans out there. :)

For now, the Tigershark is available only on SL Exchange, mainly because it was easier than updating a bunch of vendors. Within a few days, you can get it at my shop at Abbotts Aerodrome, in the northwest corner of Abbotts.
